1.2 Your Role as the Online Administrator

Your role as the Online Administrator is an important one. You are the central information source and the primary support person for the Online Consortium Hosting Service (OCHS) in your district. Your duties as the Online Administrator include:

Liaison with the OCHS and Open School BC
You will perform a communicating and coordinating role in your district for the OCHS. Encourage your teachers to ask you for assistance on anything regarding this service.

Course administration
As the Online Administrator for your district, you will be responsible for arranging for the administrative duties related to providing course access for teachers and students. Using the Online Administrative Tools system, you (or your designate) will be responsible for requesting courses, creating user accounts, registering students in classes, and updating student or class records. You will also be responsible for ensuring that participants comply with the Acceptable Use Policy.

(Note: Please advise the Open School BC Support Team (online@openschool.bc.ca) if you will be designating other district personnel to perform these tasks.)

Teacher support
You will be responsible for setting up and maintaining connectivity to the online courses and assist teachers in any customization of their courses. Depending on the experience your teachers have with online course delivery and WebCT, you will need to provide them with assistance in setting up their web browsers and WebCT course features, as well as provide guidance in using WebCT.
