3.0 Helping Teachers
Teachers can develop online courses in WebCT. Alternatively, they can access and modify online courses that
have already been developed. OCHS member districts can access online courses as a member of the Open School BC
Online Consortium (OC). Work with your teachers to determine whether they will be
developing a course themselves or accessing online courses that have already been developed.
If your teachers will be developing or modifying online courses in WebCT, they may require some training to use
the WebCT course development features. If you and your teachers are not familiar with WebCT, OCHS recommends that you
arrange for training in WebCT. The OCHS has numerous training courses available through the Online Admin Tools. These
include simple WebCT orientations to full Teacher and Designer training courses that provide you with a chance to
practice your skills. Most of these courses are Previews and do not need to be requested. Simply enroll the user using
the Manage User or Manage Section screen. More details about these training courses can be found in section 3.2 WebCT Training.
To access Open School BC courses, your district must be a member of the OCHS Online Consortium. Check with your district Online Administrator to see whether your district is a member. See a
list of courses provided by Open School BC at http://online.openschool.bc.ca/online_courses.html
Technical Requirement
Please refer to section 2.1 for the necessary computer setup. Also, make sure that the teacher has performed the Browser Check, located in the top-right corner of the Online Course Access (bb.etc.bc.ca).
