Learning Management Systems
Open School BC hosts BlackBoard Learn 9.1 (*NEW*), WebCT Campus Edition 8 and Moodle. These are widely used Learning Management Systems (LMS) specifically designed to manage online learning. Their built-in toolsets offer teachers and administrators flexibility in course presentation and administration. Their design offers students intuitive navigation.
LMS features include:
Internal Communications:
- Email – Internet mail messaging communications
- Chat – real-time text communication
- Whiteboard – real-time forum to type text, draw objects and insert tables, charts and graphics
- Discussions – group-based discussions on course-related topics (Instructors can choose to implement Threaded Discussions, Blogs, and Journals. Each discussion type has its own settings.)
Grading and Tracking:
- My Grades – students view their assignments, quiz and final marks
- Student Presentation – forum for editing, presenting and viewing student and class projects
- Student tracking – track grades, assignments and participation in discussions
- Grade book management
