Introducing Blackboard Learn 9.1

These are exciting times for education in British Columbia, and Open School BC is part of the picture. With the implementation of the new Blackboard Learn 9.1, we are offering a 21st century solution to meet the challenges of 21st century learning. Social media, mobile devices, and the introduction of new personalized
learning tools are all part of the services that the new Blackboard Learn will offer to teachers and learners.

Open School BC had a very successful workshop at the Digital Learning Spring Conference on Sunday, April 17th, introducing the new Blackboard learning management system (LMS). Teachers from all across the province joined us to learn more about the new system, see it in action and join our pilot project
group. This pilot group will work with us to learn all the new features and capabilities, push the community system and act as your mentors throughout the year.

Our colleagues from Blackboard did an outstanding job showcasing new features of Blackboard 9.1, and offered a quick hands-on lesson. We had an excellent discussion on its implementation. We also presented our schedule and strategy as we move forward.

• Elluminate integration

As we continue to work with Blackboard Learn, we find out more about the features that it will bring to our education community.

Parents will be able to partake in their children’s education in an observer role. This is an important step towards the 21st-century learning model where students, parents and teachers will collaborate in
student’s learning.

A new mobile learn app for iPhones, BlackBerrys and other smart phones will help educators and students come together.

We see this as a win-win scenario for educators across BC, having access to our award winning courses in the new Blackboard LMS.
